How To Make Your Life Easier When You Are Healing

Living and healing from chronic illness can make it impossible to keep up with life sometimes. Day to day tasks such as getting groceries and household supplies can take all your energy for the day making it impossible to keep up with things.

Fortunately, in our tech-centric days, there are a few things you can use to your advantage to make life easier.

I have compiled a list of various services I have found extremely helpful during my healing and hope that they can help you too.

GROCERIES

I remember when I was at my lowest point with Lyme, going to the grocery store was a tremendous task for me. I had to rest a day before and a day after just to be able to have the energy to get groceries. About a year into being sick, Instacart came around and it revolutionized my life.

Instacart

Instacart will go shopping at local grocery stores including Whole Foods and Costco and get you groceries and deliver them to you within 1-2 hours. You can place orders and also schedule delivery for a few days out. Instacart is in most major cities and I highly recommend it!

The prices are the same as in store so it definitely helps to make your life easy. One thing to be mindful of is it is easy to keep re-ordering the same foods. Make sure you try new recipes so you can always be switching up your foods. (This link will get you $20 off your first order)

Thrive

Thrive Market is also a great online marketplace. They have foods broken down by values (Paleo, Gluten Free etc) so it makes shopping easy. Everything is organic and non-GMO so the foods tend to be cleaner and they ship right to your door.

CSA Box

Looking into a local CSA box (Community Supported Agriculture) is also a great option. We get one delivered weekly and the produce we get from it far exceeds anything you can get at a local store. It's a nice option when getting out to a farmers market is not an option during healing. I currently use Farm Fresh To You and am really happy with it, but look for the best local options. (Code TRAILTOHEALTH will get you 50% off your first box)

US Wellness Meats + Butcher Box

If you have a hard time find quality grass fed meats in your area, US Wellness Meats and Butcher Box are great options. They ship all across the US and have great quality meats. Order grass-fed meat from Butcher Box (discount varies) or US Wellness Meats (15% off first 2 orders) with code TRAILTOHEALTH

Vital Choice

Vital Choice Seafood is similar to US Wellness Meats and Butcher Box, but for seafood! You can order great quality wild fish right to your doorstep. (Use code TRAILTOHEALTH for 10% off your order).

Osso Good Bone Broth

Bone Broth can be a staple towards healing, but it can be very time consuming and labor intensive to make. OSSO Good Bone Broth has solved that problem! It is made from grass fed beef bones and pasture raised chickens. It is super gelatinous which means it will be very healing for your gut. Opt for the AIP version as it has no added spices. It comes frozen so just thaw, heat and drink. I like to string an egg in it for some extra protein. (Use code TRAILTOHEALTH for $10 off).

Paleo On The Go

Sometimes cooking all our own food is impossible. There is a new service that ships food all across the US called Paleo On The Go. They make a wide assortment of Paleo and AIP foods that are ready to eat once you heat them up. This makes life easy when you are trying to rest and heal, but need to eat nourishing foods. (Use code TRAILTOHEALTH for $15 off your 1st order).

DELIVERIES + PERSONAL HELP

Food isn’t the only thing you need to get by day to day. Getting household and personal items delivered can be helpful too.

Branch Basics

Branch Basics are a great cleaning product you can have shipped right to your home. You can read all about the benefits in my blog post. (Use code TrailToHealth15 for 15% off your starter kit).

Instant Pot

An Instant Pot is a lifesaver when you are too tired to make food. There are tons of great recipes out there, including my blog and cookbook, Wandering Palate where you can literally throw your food in there and it is cooked in less then an hour. You can save 10% off your Instant Pot with this link and also check out my blog post on why the Instant Pot is a must have for your kitchen.

Amazon Prime

Investing in an Amazon Prime account is gold. You can get most things delivered in 1-2 days including household goods. Make your life easy and don’t make yourself go out to carry around toilet paper and laundry detergent. Get your pantry items delivered.

PostMates

Postmates is another life saver and is available in most major cities. They are great for doing quick errands or delivering food or personal items within an hour or so. Use code KLJTY and get $100 in delivery credit.

Rinse

Rinse is a handy app that gets your laundry done. Someone comes to your house and picks it up, and brings it back 48 hours later. It definitely makes life easy when even laundry is too much to do. Rinse is currently available in LA, SF and DC. Use code TRAILTOHEALTH for $20 off your order)

Task Rabbit

Task Rabbit is another helpful app. You can hire someone to do pretty much anything you need help with, whether it's organizing something at your home, handyman work etc. It can come in helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed with a project as you are healing.

Uber and Lyft

Uber and Lyft are a great way to get around if you are not feeling up to driving. Get your first Uber ride free

MISC SUPPORT

Other things that can be helpful are having support from family or friends.

Maybe see if someone can watch your kids or dogs for an afternoon so you can totally relax and rest.

Can someone come help you prep food for a week?

Cook a large roast of meat to feed you for a few days.

Hire a dog walker to exercise your dogs if they are too energetic.

Whatever you need, make this time about you and get the support you need.
