10 Ways To Kick A Cold Fast

It’s that time of year when chilly weather scatters germs among the masses and that lingering cold comes knocking at the door. Colds are inevitable, but they don’t have to keep you down long-term. Here’s 10 ways to kick a cold, fast.

Drink bone broth

When contracting a cold, the body instinctively gravitates toward the comfort of warmth. Bone broth contains immune-boosting amino acids that produce white blood cells. These warrior cells fight infections and germs that get you sick. Drink a generous helping of bone broth when you’re sick to revitalize and kick that cold.

Use a Neti pot or sinus irrigator

Whether it’s allergies, a cold or flu that’s got you down, if the nasal passages are clogged a Neti pot is an effective way to clear them up. A Neti pot is filled with saline solution that flows up through the nasal passage to clear it out. The results are tremendous, including free breathing, cleared mucous, soothed nasal dryness and alleviation from headaches. You may also reacquire your sense of smell and taste, another token symptom of having a cold.

Rest and repeat

Yes, life moves fast and our daily demands are always at bay, however this is often why we get sick in the first place; we burn the candle at both ends and inevitably burn out. I know how hard it is to allow your body the rest it requires, but seriously, cuddle up and catch those zzzz’s if you want to kick a cold quickly. Yes, binge watch that series without guilt. Go to bed early and sleep in late. Cheating the body of sleep results in a weakened immune system and longer cold. Trouble sleeping? Here’s how to optimize your sleep.

Stay hydrated

Nasal congestion is a hallmark symptom of a pesky cold. Drinking plenty of fluids helps to break up congestion and mucous, as well as alleviate fatigue and headaches caused by dehydration. Load up on water, electrolytes and hot tea in place of sugary drinks and alcohol.

Sweat it out in an Infrared Sauna

If you’ve got a scratchy throat and stuffy nose, heat is a great way to loosen nasal pressure and ease the airway. An infrared sauna pours heat directly into the body, making you sweat out toxins and bacteria that may be making that cold comfy in your body. Sweat it out to ease breathing and relieve pressure and achy muscles.

Take homeopathics

To speed up recovery naturally, homeopathic medicines are an effective and safe way to cure a cold. Homeopathic remedies work to treat the source of the cold, rather than only easing the symptoms of a cold like over the counter medicine. Some of the most effective and recommended homeopathic remedies to treat a cold are sabadilla, allium cepa, eupatorium perfoliatum and pulsatilla.

Lymphatic drainage

This hands-on approach to alleviating a cold helps promote the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body. Related to the circulatory system, mucus piles up and we need help flushing toxins and waste out. That’s where lymphatic drainage comes to the rescue, to drain the sinuses of fluid that causes sinus pressure, headaches and nasal drip.

Use an Air Purifier

When we get sick, we rightfully spend more time at home nursing ourselves back to health. However, we’re essentially breathing in recycled, stuffy, germ-filled air. An air purifier like Molekule is a great way to clean the air in the home and kill allergens and bacteria. Furthermore, air purifiers remove microbes and airborne germs that agitate sickness.

Eat nutrient rich foods

One of the most important things to be mindful of when sick is what you eat. It’s crucial to fill the body with nutrient rich, whole foods that fight illness and relieve cold symptoms. Naturally, we crave soups and broth when we’ve got a cold. Additional foods to load up on are garlic, ginger, fruits, veggies, leafy greens and lean proteins.
